The Colorado Tourism Office has scheduled eight public input sessions around the state in the coming weeks to gain insight into opportunities to maximize the benefit of tourism for Colorado communities.

The Glenwood Springs session will be held from 8-11 a.m. Wednesday at Hotel Denver in the Loft meeting room at 402 Seventh St. Those with a stake in the future of Colorado tourism, including community leaders and elected officials, are invited to attend and participate in the facilitated discussions. “We hope participants will bring their thoughts about challenges that need to be addressed as well as opportunities to drive even more long-term benefits for our state,” said Cathy Ritter, director of the state tourism office.

The three-hour input sessions will be led by Mitch Nichols, president of Nichols Tourism Group of Bellingham, Washington, which is leading the development of the strategic roadmap for Colorado tourism. Nichols is leading a consulting team that also includes the Radcliffe Co. of Spokane, Washington, and the National Laboratory of Tourism and e-Commerce, based at the University of Florida.

Findings from the public input sessions will be used to develop a State of the Industry Report, which will be shared at Colorado’s Governor’s Tourism Conference, Sept. 14-16, in Breckenridge. Following the conference, the consultants will develop draft recommendations for a strategic plan that will be shared in a subsequent round of public sessions in a different set of Colorado communities.

Throughout the process, the tourism office will take public input at http://industry.colorado.com.

In 2014 Colorado set records by welcoming 71.3 million visitors to the state, who spent $18.6 billion and generated $1.1 billion in tax revenue.
